Privacy Policy
Effective October 24, 2026
Kaleido is a learning game for iPhone made by Grace Jansen. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking, and it never sells data. This page says exactly what it keeps and what it sends.
On your phone
Your facts, packs, photos, progress, streak, and settings are saved only on your iPhone. Kaleido has no copy of them, except a pack you choose to share (below). Deleting the app, or Settings › Delete all data, removes them.
When you use an AI feature
Kaleido's rounds, wildcard rounds, quick add, and topic drafting are written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When one runs, the text it needs (for example a fact for a round, the note you typed into quick add, or a topic's name) goes over an encrypted connection to Kaleido's server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the reply. Kaleido's server doesn't store that text. Anthropic handles it under its privacy policy and commercial terms, and by default doesn't train its models on API data. Your photos are never sent.
Sharing a pack
When you tap Share pack, a copy of that pack's text (its title, emoji, and each fact's question, answers, and picture title) goes to Kaleido's server and is kept there for 90 days, then deleted. Anyone with the link can see it. Kaleido never sends your photos or progress, or anything that says who you are. A starter pack's link sends nothing, since every copy of Kaleido has the pack. Packs your friends share with you are saved on your phone like your own.
What Kaleido's server keeps
- A device key id. Apple's App Attest makes a random key on your phone, so the server can tell the real Kaleido app from anything else. The server keeps the key's id and public key. It isn't linked to your name, Apple ID, or any other identity, and it's forgotten after 180 days without use.
- Spend counters. To cap what AI costs, the server counts how much each device spent today and how much every device spent this month. Each counter expires after its day or its month.
- Shared packs and a share counter. Each pack you share, for 90 days, and how many packs each device shared that day, to limit sharing to 20 a day. The counter expires when its day ends.
- Short server logs, which show only the first 8 characters of a key's id.
Pictures
Some facts show free-licensed pictures from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Your phone loads them straight from Wikimedia's servers, which see the request, as any website you visit would. Only article titles are asked for. See the Wikimedia privacy policy.
Children
Kaleido isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them. It collects no personal information from anyone.
